Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, the mistress of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), has commended the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School, Legon (PRESEC-Legon) for their hard work on the quiz. Prof. Kaufmann stated in a Thursday, November 2, 2023, interview on Star FM that the majority of the PRESEC competitors are well-prepared for the competition thanks to the framework their school has put in place.

She continued by saying that "although PRESEC students, for example, are required to take quizzes on a regular basis, other institutions appear to be more interested in entertainment,
which gives PRESEC the upper hand".

“It appears that the competitors are getting ready long before they arrive at the school. Therefore, a young junior high school or elementary school kid is watching this show, assessing the school’s performance, and making the decision to enroll in that institution.

“There are many different quiz shows these days, and people practice there. They will already have an advantage when they arrive to PRESEC to join that team.

Compare this to a school for girls where the final year participants are chosen through mocks. She asked, “Are they on the same playing field?” “So, they have the structures in place,” the academic continued. “I’m confident that PRESEC has distinct teams and that this wasn’t started yesterday, while other students are singing and dancing, these people are organizing quiz programs which gives them upper hand over others''.
